A locum doctor is in essence a traveling doctor who fills the responsibilities of long-term employees in the event they need to take an extended period of time off from work. Often such doctors are well compensated, and often thrive on the change of scenery that their transient career choice provides. However, some find it difficult to constantly be moving around, and therefore may choose to pursue longer contract positions that may extend for several months or longer.
