Family physicians are physicians that a family has for their first doctor. This is the person you go see first when you get ill or sick, or you need to be checked by a doctor. A family physician is trusted among many people as this is the person people see first before anyone else.This doctor may be asked for advice or tips on certain things or topics from patients either about themselves, or about their kids.

When you need to see a doctor for something, a family physician is going to be the first person you get in touch with. This can range from needing an exam, needing a check-up, illness, or any other treatment that may be needed.
Referrals
When a patient goes to them for treatment, they may need to be referred to a different doctor for further treatment that either the doctor doesn't have the proper training for, or if he feels it would be better for the patient.
Exhausting Hours
Family doctors can work long hours on a weekly basis. Some weeks, a family doctor can work as many as 60 hours or more. They can even be called in to work after normal operating hours. Some physicians become so involved with their patient and their family, that they are willing to see the patient on short notice.
Prescriptions
There are many illnesses that family doctors can treat and care for. If the patient requires a prescription, a family doctor will prescribe one to them to help with the illness or condition.
